Welcome to our charming handcrafted shepherd’s hut in the heart of Dartmoor National Park,
within walking distance of Chagford. The hut is nestled in the corner of our field amongst wildflowers and
fruit trees and has a fire pit, BBQ, hammock and vegetable / herb garden. Inside, there is a cosy log burner,
king size bed with stargazing skylight over top and en suite bathroom with compost loo and hot shower.
Along the bottom of the field runs the River Teign and it’s a perfect spot for a picnic/swim.
The space and Amenities
Cosy shepherd’s hut with log burner and large curved skylight which lets in lots of light in the day time and is great for stargazing at night time. The bathroom has a compost loo and powerful hot shower. There is a kitchenette with a two-ringed gas hob, fridge with freezer compartment, stove-top kettle and toaster. Double stable doors look out onto the field and surrounding hills. You have a private nature garden with wildflowers, willow igloo, raspberry canes, fruit trees and a vegetable / herb garden which you can help yourselves to. There is a hammock, gas BBQ, fire pit and dinghy for your use and an outdoor tap for muddy boots etc.
Next door to the hut live our friendly flock of chickens and resident cockerel. One well-behaved dog allowed to stay too!

Free parking is available on site within metres from the hut. Chagford is a short walk away – about 10 minutes via road and about 30 minutes via a footpath alongside the river. Many footpaths are accessible on foot from the hut as well as the Mill End Hotel which serves delicious Devonshire cream teas and Fingle Bridge / Castle Drogo which can also be accessed on foot via a lovely walk and about 30 minutes via the river.
"Wanted to get away for a couple of nights to recharge and be in the countryside. It could not have been any better fantastic location in the heart of the Devon countryside with great walks on your doorstep. We had a walk into Chagford and had a nice meal and drinks at the 3 Crowns.
The Shepard's Hut is not just like one of those mass produced ones that seem to be poping up a lot of late. It’s a really well made and thought out hut with real character and that’s what really stood out for us and it was made by the owners.
With its reclaimed floor boards and great roof window to see the stars ⭐️ on a clear night. Nice little kitchen that had everything we wanted and the power shower which is a nice modern touch.
We look forward to coming back later in the summer. I imagine it also would be very nice in winter after long walks on the moor to come back and put your feet up by the log burner and escape the rat race of modern life."
